All Topo Viewer What Is 'All Topo Maps' ?

All Topo Maps are CD-ROM Map Sets - Each Set includes a collection of 7 1/2 minute (1:24,000), 1:100,000 scale and 1:250,000 topographical maps of one entire US state and an easy to use ALLTOPO map viewing/using software.

The software requires a fast PC with one of the following operating systems: Windows 95, Win98, Win98SE, Windows ME, or Windows NT.

Each collection includes every map for an entire U.S. state. The ALLTOPO viewing software allows quick access to every map by location, place or feature name entry. Export maps to the clipboard and print maps. Straight line, traced distance and areas may be measured using the viewing software.

All Topo Viewer CD-ROM Map Origins

7 1/2 minute topographical maps represent the smallest scale (most detailed resolution) available for general coverage of rural lands. The base, paper maps, are prepared by the USGS department in 7 minute 30 second (7 1/2 minute) longitude and latitude increments which project the curved surface of the earth onto the flat surface of paper; paper maps.

These paper maps are scanned into digital files, georeferenced to 2 1/2-minute grid ticks, then digitally rubber-sheet reprojected to flat Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) space. The digital map images are highly compressed and prepared for use with the ALL TOPO MAPS system.

The map images contained in these products are derived from Digital Raster Graphic (DRG) Images produced by the USGS.
