DIVE SITE | Everyone
The Peninsula offers something for
everyone! It is the prime tourist destination in
Tasmania with the convict ruins at Port Arthur, Devil's
Kitchen, Tasman Arch and the Blowhole. For scuba
diving, the Tasman Peninsula is the perfect venue for your
home base. The area offers fabulous above-water
scenery with massive cliff formations towering up to 277
metres above sea level. These walls continue
underwater and combined with the rich invertebrate life
provide spectacular diving. In addition, whales and
dolphins are regularly sighted on this part of Tasmania's
coast.
DIVE SITE | Boat Or Shore Dives
The area supports numerous giant kelp
forests. Sites we dive frequently include Fortescue Bay,
Deep Glen Bay and Shag Rock Bay. Superb forests of the giant
Macrocystis kelp tower as much as 30 metres to the surface,
These bays are also home to the Common Sea Dragon, Sea
Horses, colorful Boxfish, schools of Jack Mackerel and
Trevally. Access to all of these sites is by boat.
The cliff formations make shore access impossible. Our
vessel offers fast, reliable transport to all these sites.
It is surveyed for seven divers plus coxswain/divemaster for
these exposed waters.
DIVE
SITE | Experienced Divers
The magnificent formations of the
Sisters Rocks provides spectacular diving to depths of 40
metres. These rock columns are home to huge schools of fish
such as Butterfly Perch, Long-finned Pike, Trumpeter and an
abundant assortment of other life. Diving these
columns at any depth provides excellent photographic
opportunities and always an unforgettable dive!

Wreck Divers
The SS Nord was built in 1900.
She weighed 1057 tonnes net and measured 289.4 feet.
She sank on November 8th, 1915. Her wreck is situated near a
reef in 42 metres of water, a few miles from Tasman Island.
The Nord is one of Tasmania's few "intact" shipwrecks.
Although the superstructure has collapsed, she still
resembles a ship. The wreck has attracted a variety of
fish and is covered in colorful marine growth. There
are still a number of artifacts to be seen on the wreck
including brass fittings and Chinese crockery. The
wreck of the SS Nord is now a protected site.
DIVE SITE | Advance Experienced Divers
The larger Hippolyte Rock supports a
small seal colony. Apart from the seals, one can expect
walls to 40 metres (and deeper) carpeted with sponges and
yellow zoanthids. Needle Rock, between the
Hippolyte Rocks, drops away from 4 metres to about 40 metres,
the deeper part covered with sea whips. It is
potentially a high current area and therefore is not for
novices. Being out of the way and subject to current,
it supports plenty of fish life.
